FAQs

We’ve gathered our most commonly asked questions here, so you can feel informed, at ease, and ready to take the next step toward the support and benefits you deserve.

Can I submit a DVA claim if I am still serving?

Yes, you can submit a DVA claim while still serving in the Australian Defence Force. In fact, DVA encourages current ADF members to lodge claims as soon as possible for any injuries, illnesses, or conditions sustained during service.

There is no guarantee that you will be eligible for any compensation from DVA. However, if you have a DVA-approved condition, DVA will take into account factors such as your age, the severity of your condition, your level of impairment, and how it impacts your daily life when calculating your compensation.

Timeframes can vary depending on the complexity of your claim and DVA’s processing times. To support a timely outcome, it’s important to provide thorough documentation and respond promptly to any requests from DVA. While timeframes are largely influenced by DVA, VetComp aims to have your claim finalised within 12 months. Our DVA advocates can manage this process on your behalf to assist with speedy correspondence with DVA and medical providers.

Any current or former Australian Defence Force member who has sustained an injury or illness related to their service may be eligible. Our team assesses each case individually and assists you with your initial liability and permanent impairment claim.

Medical reports, specialist assessments, and diagnostic tests are key to demonstrating the connection between your condition and your service. If you don’t already have this evidence, our team can help by connecting you with providers who are paid directly by DVA—so you won’t be out of pocket for any medical investigations related to your claim.

At VetComp, your privacy is our priority. We do not disclose any information about your DVA claims without your expressed consent. The DVA also operates under strict privacy legislation, and your personal information is protected under the DVA’s Privacy Policy. Any consultations with medical providers are governed by patient confidentiality laws, ensuring your medical details remain secure and private at all times.

Yes. Many service-related injuries and illnesses take time to emerge. Our team is experienced in identifying potential links between your current conditions and your ADF service—even if those conditions developed after your separation.
